Ridgetop, Tennessee

Robertson County

Autumn seems to invoke a childlike excitement in most people, after the dog days of summer have more than worn out their welcome. The season provides a renewed energy, recharging the creativity of the weary masses, be it in decorating with mums and pumpkins, or simply trying to create the perfect chicken wing for the Saturday tailgate party. Weekends are filled with football, barn sales, and the gathering of family and friends around bonfires to revel in the beauty of Autumn.

October brings in the harvest from the farms and gardens that includes pumpkins, cabbage, squash, and beans. Farm stands are brimming with bright oranges and yellows, and clamoring  children running from pumpkin to pumpkin trying to choose the perfect future jack-o-lantern. Fall is my favorite season, especially in the South, particularly in Tennessee.

In Ridgetop, Tennessee, which is about 20 minutes from downtown Nashville, my favorite farm stand sits aside Highway 41. Smiley's Produce is a miniature version of a farmer's market (they actually have a stand at the Nashville Farmer's Market), featuring vegetables, plants and flowers, jellies and preserves, and other seasonal delights, all of which are made locally.

Smiley has a wide variety of pumpkins, including the popular pastels and whites.

The kids can choose their perfect jack-o-lantern.

Smiley has just about everything you need for Fall.

October in the South is magical. Go exploring! Get a map and take a Sunday drive to discover what lies beyond the interstates. You may discover wonderful secrets.

Have a great Sunday! :)
